Legal Preliminaries Civil Partnership

Appointments can only be booked for Kent and Bexley Residents - This does not include the Medway Towns of Chatham, Gillingham, Rochester or Strood. If you live in Medway please contact the Medway Register Office.

In order to marry or enter a civil partnership both parties are required to give their legal preliminaries in person where they live, no more than 12 months before the date of their ceremony. For more information please visit our website https://www.akentishceremony.com/

As part of the booking process you will be asked to answer a number of questions which may generate a warning message and advise you to contact a Ceremonies Officer for advice. You can still complete the booking process to secure a date and time for your ceremony.

Legal preliminaries are subject to a fee as set by the General Register Office. There may be additional fees depending on your individual circumstances. All fees are payable at the time of the appointment.

You will be asked to accept our Terms and Conditions before making your booking.

Once your booking is complete you will be given a reference number to quote when attending appointments or contacting us to amend or cancel your booking.

Kent County Council will use the data you provide for the sole purpose of managing your booking. Your personal details will be retained for a maximum of 5 years after your appointment and will not be passed to any other parties or used for any other purpose without your permission.
